OLYMPIA, Wash. — The College of Idaho women's soccer team took care of business Friday afternoon, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Evergreen State in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Geoduck Pitch.
With the win, the Yotes (13-2-0, 10-1-0 CCC) remain in contention for the CCC regular season title. Southern Oregon's victory earlier in the day means The College of Idaho must match the Raiders' result tomorrow to claim the championship outright. The Yotes will face Northwest University in their regular season finale Saturday at 4 p.m. MT.
The scoring came early and often for the Yotes, who outshot the Geoducks 27-2 and held a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks. Natasja Davis opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing a close-range shot off a feed from Gianna Yslava. Campbell Reed doubled the lead in the 38th minute, cleaning up a rebound after a save, and Madison Little added a third just two minutes later with a strike from 18 yards out.
Eden Makaafi capped the scoring for the Yotes in the 47th minute, converting a penalty kick for her ninth goal of the season. Evergreen (1-12-1, 1-9-1 CCC) pulled one back in the 57th minute on a goal by Madeline Dorendorf, but the Yotes defense held firm the rest of the way.
The Yotes did not allow a shot on goal until the second half and finished with a 15-1 edge in shots on target.
Tomorrow's matchup against Northwest University will determine the Yotes' postseason seeding and a win guarantees the Yotes their third straight CCC Regular Season Championship.
