Surprise, Arizona – The College of Idaho and Ottawa University Arizona (OUAZ) ended their matchup in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Spirit Field.
OUAZ opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when JoJo Smith capitalized on a mishandled corner kick by College of Idaho goalkeeper
Alivia Brenchley, heading in an open goal. The Yotes equalized in the 62nd minute with a penalty kick converted by
Alexis Eiguren.
The College of Idaho took a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute as
Eden Makaafi scored following a decisive steal by
Abbi Roubidoux. Despite a crucial goal line clearance by Isabelle Deville in the 72nd minute, OUAZ managed to level the score again in the 79th minute when Melinda Lertzman found the net unassisted.
The Yotes dominated the game with a significant 27-11 advantage in shots and controlled possession throughout. Chloe Avila of OUAZ recorded 10 saves, with her team's defense managing to block or deflect multiple College of Idaho attempts.
The tie brings the College of Idaho's record to 2-0-1, while OUAZ moves to 2-1-1. The Yotes will return home to Simplot Stadium for their next match against UC Merced on September 15, 2024, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m.
