KLAMATH FALLS, Oreg – The nationally ranked #15 College of Idaho held the #3 seed going into the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament and fell to #6 seed Carroll College 3-1. The upset marked the first time in program history that Carroll won a game in the tournament. The Yotes will have to rebound quickly tomorrow to progress as they are one loss away from being eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
They will face host #5 Oregon Tech tomorrow. The Owls swept the Yotes the last weekend of the regular season. The Owls fell to #17 Southern Oregon Raiders 5-3 in their first game of the tournament after a three run fourth inning rally lifted the defending NAIA Champion Raiders over the hosts to put them one loss away from elimination.
The Yotes batters struggled to find offense in the matchup with Carroll pitcher Kennedy Venner have a strong day in the circle Venner fanned six of 26 batters face and only allowed four hits. The trio of Yotes working the circle of
Annie Polster,
Grace Neer, and
Rylee Smith allowed seven hits and walked six Fighting Saints. Neer struck out five Saints in her 3.2 innings of work.
Lolo Walker scored the only run of the day for the Yotes with her solo homer in the bottom of the fourth which put the score 3-1. Lexi Navarette led the Yotes with two hits with her double to center field that hit the top of the center field fence but bounced fair in the bottom of the second and a single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth.
The Yotes are scheduled to start the game tomorrow at 10 am MT/9 am PT if weather permits. Snow/rain storms on the radar suggest it may have to be delayed with the
