La Grande, Ore. – With better weather conditions, the No. 19 College of Idaho softball team dropped a twinbill to host No. 15 Eastern Oregon.
The host Mountaineers rallied for a 4-2 win in game one that was resumed from Saturday's doubleheader. EOU took the nightcap by a 4-0 margin. The two coaching staff agreed to not play the fourth game of the series which is a non-conference matchup.
College of Idaho held a 2-1 lead before Saturday's weather conditions forced the series to resume on Sunday. The Yotes erased a 1-0 deficit in the fourth inning, plating two runs on just on one hit a two-RBI by
Sydney Zachry.
Eastern Oregon came back with two runs on three hits its half of the fourth for a 3-2 lead. The Mountaineers picked up an insurance run in the sixth.
Zachry and
Lolo Walker accounted for the two hits for College of Idaho in the loss. EOU picked up nine hits with seven of the Mountaineers with a hit. Leadoff batter Haley Tyree.
The Mountaineers scored twice in the third and two more in the fifth on its way to a 4-0 win. Kylie Parsons allowed just two hits for EOU on her way to the shutout and 13th win of the season. Walker and
Hallie Holland each had a hit.
Two runs on one hit in the third inning put the home team ahead even though they left the bases loaded. Two more runs on two hits in the fifth by EOU added to the lead en route to the victory.
Next, the Yotes will remain on the road for a four-game series against Providence. The series will get underway on Friday, Apr. 12 with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
