ROCKLIN, Calif. – The College of Idaho softball team lost by a 2-1 margin to Menlo and 4-1 margin to Jessup to wrap up the final weekend of non-conference play.
The Yotes (7-7) were held to just two hits by Menlo in the first game of the day. In the contest, the two teams each plated a run in the first inning before it became a pitcher's dual for the rest of the contest. The Oaks took advantage of a two-out triple by Emma Molina for the game-winning run in the third.
The top three in the order for Menlo accounted for all four hits – two off the bat by Bella Cortez.
Kamryn Ham and
Kaylee MacDannald each had a hit for the Yotes in the loss. For C of I,
Annie Polster was the tough-luck loser despite an eight-strikeout effort. Shelby White for Menlo struck out four in the complete game win.
The second game of the day saw host Jessup score twice in the bottom of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie en route to the 4-2 win over the Yotes.
Jessup plated two in the first inning before College of Idaho tied it in the third inning. Both runs came in on a two-RBI single by
Lolo Walker for C of I. The Yotes nearly took their first lead in the contest in the fourth before stranding a runner at third.
With the game tied at two, Jessup scored twice on three hits in the fifth inning. C of I mounted a threat in the sixth before the Warriors got a pair of pop outs and a ground out to end the opportunity.
Walker had two of the five hits for the Yotes to go along with two RBI. Kaitlyn Fanning had three hits to lead a nine-hit effort for Jessup in the win.
Abbey Brooks pitched four innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (four earned) in the loss for C of I. T. Katie Blankenheim pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit for the win.
Next, College of Idaho will host Carroll in its first series of Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The series will get underway at Symms Field with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m.
