Yotes Face Tough Test in National Tournament Pool Play

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The College of Idaho volleyball team faced a challenging start to their NAIA National Championship Tournament journey on Wednesday afternoon, falling in straight sets to conference rival Corban University (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) in the first match of pool play.

The Yotes showed moments of brilliance against the No. 5-ranked Warriors, with senior Shelbey Nichol leading the offense with 10 kills and setter Savannah Hutchins contributing 16 assists and seven digs. The third set saw College of Idaho push back, buoyed by Mia Hutchinson's six kills and Haley McUne's versatile play, which included four kills and two service aces.

Freshman Kadence Boyd stepped into the libero role for the first time this season, showcasing her adaptability after serving as a serving specialist throughout the year. Boyd tallied six digs and added a service ace, providing a spark to the Yotes' defensive efforts.

Despite early leads in each set, the Yotes were unable to overcome Corban's efficient attack, which was led by Makayla Roginski's nine kills and Allyson Reid's dominant .714 hitting percentage. Earlier this season, the Yotes and Warriors split their series, with College of Idaho falling in four sets on the road at Corban before bouncing back with a dominant sweep at home. Unfortunately Corban came up with the tie-breaker.

The Yotes now turn their focus to a must-win matchup against Aquinas (Mich.) on Thursday at 12 p.m. MT. A victory is essential to keep their hopes of advancing in the tournament alive.
