No. 8 College of Idaho Sweeps UBC to Begin Final Home Weekend

CALDWELL, Idaho - No. 8 College of Idaho opened up its final home weekend of the season with a pair of 8-1 wins over the University of British Columbia on Friday.
 
Game one featured Hallie Holland, Hattie Hruza and Kaylee MacDannald, who each record two hits in the win for College of Idaho. Yotes starting pitcher Katelyn Wilfert allows four hits and strikes out eight in the win to raise her record to 14-3 on the season.
 
With the game tied at 1, in the bottom of the third, a RBI double by Hruza and a RBI single by Powell regained the lead for College of Idaho as the Yotes went ahead 3-1. The Yotes added to its lead in the fourth with a solo home run by MacDannald and a RBI single by Lexi Navarrete. The final three runs came in the fifth inning with RBI singles by McNerney, MacDannald and Holland.

Wilfert, who surrendered a pair of singles to start the game, came back to allow just two more hits and struck out eight on her way to a complete game.
 
Game two saw College of Idaho pound out nine hits with two each from Kaily Christensen, Madelyn Powell and Lindsay Jones in the win. Haley Loffer and Hattie Hruza each scored twice. The nine-hits and eight runs were enough offensive support for Hannah McNerney, who pitched a complete game to raise her record to 17-2. McNerney struck out four and allowed five hits in the win.
 
C of I scored seven of its eight runs in the final three innings after a 1-1 tie. The Yotes regained the lead on a RBI double by McNerney in the fourth for a 2-1 lead. Then, for the second game in a row, they plated two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth inning. In the sixth, C of I got a RBI double each from Jones and Christensen on its way to the win.
 
Next, College of Idaho will wrap up its final home series with a Saturday doubleheader at 11 a.m. at Symms Field. Between games, the Yotes will recognize Sydney Zachry, Lexi Navarrete, Hattie Hruza, Lauren Garman, Lauren Gordon, Daralyn Moura, Tanner Higgins, Katelyn Wilfert, Kaily Christensen, Hannah McNerney, Lindsey Jones, Haley Loffer, Kennedy Sorenson and Lysette Villegas.
