PORTLAND, Ore. – No. 12 College of Idaho completed a doubleheader and a series sweep of Warner Pacific, winning 14-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two. The doubleheader sweep extends the winning streak for the nationally-ranked Yotes to 13 games, plus it is the fourth series sweep on the season.
College of Idaho (28-2, 13-2 CCC) had 14 runs on 15 hits in game one to provide the support to
Hannah McNerney who allowed two hits and struck out seven for the win. Plus, the Yotes plated 10 runs on 15 hits in game two. The offensive onslaught gave ample support to
Grace Neer, who threw a no-hitter.
Game 1
Five Yotes –
Haley Loffer,
Kaily Christensen,
Tanner Higgins,
Hattie Hruza and
Lexi Navarrete – had two hits to lead the 15-hit attack. College of Idaho scored two runs each in the first three innings before scoring eight in the fourth on its way to a 14-0 win over the Knights.
Two runs on three hits to start the game for College of Idaho put the Yotes ahead in the top of the first. Among the hits were a RBI single by Christensen and a RBI triple by Hruza. In the second inning, a pair of RBI doubles by
Hallie Holland and Loffer stretched the lead 4-0; then in the third, the Yotes plated two on a single by
Brinley Iverson. With a 6-0 lead in the fourth, 12 Yotes came to bat as they scored eight runs on five hits.
Three of the runs came in on a home run by Higgins in the inning.
The offense did not overshadow performance of
Hannah McNerney, who allowed a hit in each of the first two innings on her way to getting the win.
Game 2
College of Idaho had a four-run second inning and a five-run fifth inning gave support to
Grace Neer, who threw a no-hitter.
Madelyn Powell went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI and
Haley Loffer went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI in the win for the Yotes.
In the second inning, a pair of RBI singles by Powell and
Sydney Zachry to go along with a two-RBI single by Loffer put College of Idaho ahead 4-0. After adding to its lead with a run in the third for a 5-0 lead, College of Idaho scored five in the fifth for the win. In the fifth after three-straight singles to start the inning, the Yotes went ahead 6-0; then the fourth batter in the inning – Powell cleared the bases with a three-run home run to stretch the advantage to 9-0. Then, after a ground out,
Haley Loffer hit a solo home run to make it 10-0.
Next, College of Idaho will host Eastern Oregon on Tuesday at Symms Field with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
