Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz - In a makeup after last night's lightning postponement, the Yotes women's soccer team returned to the field this morning and defeated OUAZ by a score of 1-0.
The first 45 minutes of Saturday's action was scoreless, as
Hannah McFadden added to her shutout streak, holding the Spirit scoreless while recording five saves in the first half. Akeala Patterson displayed a fantastic performance in goal for the Spirit. Despite allowing the lone goal, the Spirit keeper would tally seven saves on the day.
Freshman
Natasja Davis continued her red-hot start to the season, tallying her fifth goal of the season in just the fourth game. Davis would find the back of the net in the 64th minute to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead off an assist by
Maddie Smith, which would eventually be the final score.Â
"Tremendous job today. A really tough opponent on the road," said head coach
Brian Smith. "The girls once again showed their maturity and ability to handle adversity. A tight game at half and we found a way to generate more pressure and our depth really started to take over the match. An amazing performance by
Maddie Smith really kickstarted us and she set up the goal to Natasja. However, without a defensive performance like we showed we could not have been as great. A true team win against a very good opponent. I am excited for what this group continues to show."
Up next for the Yotes is a contest with Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in Prescott tomorrow afternoon.
