CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Volleyball team battled tough in a pair matches against No. 23 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) and Saint Katherine (Calif.) to wrap up action in the College of Idaho Preseason Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. The valiant effort did not result in victories but provided growth opportunities to a young 'Yotes team.

The day got underway as the nationally-ranked visitors from Waxahachie, Texas - SAGU spoiled an upset bid with a five-set win, 25-15, 25-17, 21-25, 24-26, 16-14. The Lions managed to hit .205 with three players recording double-digit kills, including Emma Tompkins who had 14 in the win.

The 'Yotes were led by a 17-kill effort by Gabriella Rios, who was joined in double figures by reserves Callie Muniz and Isabelle Combs, who had 11 and 10 kills. Combs also added 13 digs for her first career double double. Analise Hitchcock also had a double double for College of Idaho for her first career double double.

The second match of the day and the final match of the tournament saw College of Idaho lose in four to Saint Katherine by a 25-21, 22-25, 25-11, 25-20 margin.

In the loss, four-different 'Yotes had seven kills - Isabelle Combs, Chayla Slavin, Gabriella Rios and Brenna Hawkins. The visiting Firebirds managed to post a .369 hitting percentage with a 22-kill effort by Addison Metts to pace the visitors in the win.

The two losses see the 'Yotes fall to 1-3 on the season. Next, College of Idaho will travel to Surprise, Arizona for the 2022 OUAZ Tournament where they will face Park-Gilbert and host OUAZ on Friday, August 26 and MSU-Northern and Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Saturday, August 27.
