CHICKASHA, Okla. -
Katelyn Wilfert was magnificent on the mound as the College of Idaho softball team won their first game of the NAIA Opening Round, defeating Ottawa 3-0.
Wilfert fired a two-hit shutout en route to the victory, striking out 11 Ottawa batters. After hitting the first batter of the game, Wilfert would strike out two of the next three batters to get out of the inning. In the second, Wilfert didn't allow a baserunner while striking out two. The first Ottawa hit of the game came in the third inning on a single. Wilfert would go the final three innings of the contest without allowing a hit en route to the win.
The Yotes offense took no time at all to strike.
Haley Loffer led off the bottom of the first with a triple to right field, and would score on a
Kaily Christensen groundout. In the bottom of the third, Loffer would single and follow it up with two stolen bases prior to scoring on a
Kylie Smith sacrifice hit. The third Yotes run would come on a
Kaylee MacDannald double which scored
Tanner Higgins.
Next up for the Yotes is the winner of host Science & Arts of Oklahoma and Mount Marty. The game will start at 11 a.m. CT, 10 a.m. MT.
