CALDWELL, Idaho – Bushnell University used three late set runs to earn a 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 victory over The College of Idaho inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Emily Vandenberg had 10 kills and
Leyah de Souza added seven kills and three blocks to lead the Coyotes (3-7, 0-2 CCC) in the loss – as C of I lost despite 35 kills and a .211 attack percentage.
The Beacons (6-1, 1-1) got 10 kills on 18 swings from Halle Neumann and eight kills and six blocks from Matty Ladd in the road victory.
C of I built a 12-10 lead in Set 1 on the strength of a de Souza kill and an
Isabelle Combs ace, but two Shay Coons kills started a 4-0 run for the visitors. The Yotes were within 16-15, but an 8-2 run put the game away for the Beacons.
The Yotes had control of Set 2, using a 5-1 run to take a 13-11 lead, extending it to 20-16 on a Vandenberg kill. C of I held a 23-20 edge, but did not score again – as two hitting errors and a BU ace tied the score, with kills from Coons and Ladd completing the comeback.
Set 3 was tight – featuring 12 ties – the last at 20-20 after a Beacons hitting error. However, Bushnell earned a side out, adding a block and ace to force a timeout, with Neumann ending the match with a cross court kill.
Sidney Frith finished with 20 assists for the Yotes, with Combs adding 12 digs.
Makenna Northern had 41 assists in the win for the Beacons, with Callie Wilkins adding 17 digs and three aces.
C of I returns to action next weekend, hosting Lewis-Clark State and Walla Walla.
