HELENA, Mont. – The College of Idaho defeated Carroll 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Nelson Stadium to win the East Division of the Cascade Conference.
With the victory, the Yotes (8-3-2, 6-1-1 CCC) earned an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament, marking the first time in program history that C of I has qualified for nationals. The Yotes previously won the CCC in 2009, with that team finishing 14-3 overall.
A goal in the seventh minute from
Megan Wilkinson, her third of the season, proved to be the difference in the win.
Madison Glascock earned the assist on the play.
For the third time this season, senior
Kylee Atkins worked a shutout in the net for the Yotes, making six saves and facing a total of 12 shots.
C of I held a 13-12 advantage in shots for the match, with the Fighting Saints (4-4-1, 3-4-1 CCC) posting a 6-5 edge in shots on frame.
As has been the case in conference play throughout the season, the Yotes once again took more corners than the opposition, finishing with eight compared to just three for Carroll.
The NAIA will air a selection show to determine who C of I will play and where on Monday, Apr. 12 at 10 a.m. MT on the PlayNAIA Facebook page.
Opening Round action runs from Apr. 15-17, with the Foley Sports Tourism Championship Field in Foley, Ala. serving as the Final Site on Apr. 27-May 3.
Earlier today, the NAIA released the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round hosts. Below is a list of those hosts and sites.
