Raiders Win Saturday Pair Over Yotes

ASHLAND, Ore. – No. 1 Southern Oregon took the final two games of a four-game weekend series over No. 23 College of Idaho on Saturday at University Field.

The Raiders (38-2, 20-1 CCC) won Game 1 by a score of 6-0 and Game 2 by an 8-0 tally over the Yotes (30-12, 18-3 CCC).

In the opener, SOU starter Gabby Sandoval (20-0) was outstanding once again, pitching a complete game two-hit shutout and striking out seven in the process.

After being held scoreless with just two hits over the first two innings by C of I starter Hannah McNerney (10-5), the Raiders scored five runs on six hits in the third. Tayler Walker got the scoring started with a two-run double, followed by a Katrina Winterburn RBI base hit through the left side. Later in the inning, Olivia Mackey singled to right to plate Winterburn.

SOU would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a Riley Donovan sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the first inning of the second game, Lauren Quirke roped a double to the gap in left-center to put the Raiders up 1-0 early.

The Raiders tacked on one in the third, five in the fifth and one in the sixth on the way to victory.

Quirke (13-2) was the winning pitcher for SOU, going the full six innings and scattering five hits while striking out four.

Lexi Navarrete had a quality game for the Yotes starting in right field and hitting a double before switching to pitcher and recording all three outs in the fifth to force the 7-0 game into the sixth inning.

Kaily Christensen went 2-for-3 for C of I.

The Yotes square off with No. 5 Oregon Tech next Friday and Saturday at Symms Field.
