Clements Scores in Key Draw With 9th Ranked EOU

CALDWELL, Idaho. – Playing in the best weather conditions of the season to date, The College of Idaho earned a 1-1 draw against No. 9 ranked Eastern Oregon on Sunday afternoon at Simplot Stadium.

Eastern (7-0-2, 5-0-2 CCC) scored first in the 26th minute on a penalty kick goal by Sarah Mitchell. The opportunity for the Mountaineers was created after a handball was called on the Yotes (5-3-2, 3-1-1 CCC).

Shortly thereafter in the 33rd minute, Madison Glascock fired a rocket off the crossbar that rebounded to Sydney Clements on the left side in front of the net. Clements did the rest, chipping in the goal for her second of the season.

Neither team was able to find the net the rest of the way, with each goalkeeper holding the opposition scoreless throughout the duration of the second half and two overtimes.

C of I generated a plethora of opportunities on the attack, finishing with a 16-8 edge in shots. The Yotes took 11 corners to just one for the Mountaineers.

Kylee Atkins was outstanding in goal for C of I, hauling in four saves and racing to track down loose balls in front of the net numerous times.

Atkins and fellow seniors Cameron Coyle, Kaya Evans, Mackenzie Malach and Brooklyn Ruwe were each honored before the game as part of the Senior Day festivities.

The Yotes and EOU return to the pitch tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in a match that C of I must win in order to remain in the hunt for a Cascade Conference East Division title.
