KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University topped The College of Idaho 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 in the regular-season finale for both teams, claiming a spot in the Cascade Conference Championships.
The Eagles (13-13, 12-10 CCC) forced C of I into 29 attack errors and will take the No. 5 seed into the postseason.
The Yotes (14-16, 11-11) finished the year in a tie with Lewis-Clark State in sixth-place, with LC earning the league's final playoff spot – winning the second tiebreaker (head-to-head sets won – 5-4).with C of I.
On their Senior Night, NU bolted to a 20-9 lead in the opening set – taking advantage to 10 C of I hitting errors in the frame.
Set 2 saw the Coyote build a 12-9 lead on an
Austyn Mauzy kill, but the Eagles were able to pull even at 14-14 and follow with an 8-2 run, keyed by three Susana Bailey kills, to pull away.
C of I battled back from a 18-13 deficit in Set 3, as
Jade Warren powered down three kills in a 9-2 run to give the visitors the lead. The Yotes led 23-21, but NU scored the final four points of the match, including two Megan Horne kills, to end the night.
Mauzy led C of I with eight kills and a career-high 16 digs, with Warren recording five kills and four blocks. Setter
Sidney Frith had 19 assists and
Sydnee Steel posted 18 digs.
