LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 20-ranked College of Idaho could not overcome a 13-3 edge in team blocks by Eastern Oregon, as the eighth-ranked Mountaineers topped the Yotes in three sets inside Quinn Coliseum.
EOU (12-1, 2-1 CCC) avenged a 5-set loss to the Yotes on their home floor last season with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 win.
Big runs in all three sets were the key for the Mounties. Eastern used a 5-0 surge in Set 1 to build a 12-6 lead; erased a 6-3 lead by the Coyotes (7-4, 2-2) with a pair of 5-point runs in Set 2; while flipping a 10-8 C of I lead in Set 3 with a six-point run.
Jordyn Boswell and
Austyn Mauzy led the Coyotes with eight kills, with
Ashley Pagan recording seven kills and 10 digs.
Abigail Guinn had 25 assists and
Drew Dobney finished with 11 digs.
Megan Bunn led all players with 13 kills and seven blocks, with Jet Taylor adding 10 kills and five blocks.
C of I returns home next weekend to host Northwest University and Evergreen.
