KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Taylor Eakle smashed a go-ahead 2-run homer in Game 1, helping the College of Idaho to a doubleheader split with No. 12 ranked Oregon Tech at Stilwell Stadium.
Home runs by
Marissa Maddox and Eakle led the Yotes (33-9, 18-5 CCC) to a 3-1 victory in the opener, while Tech rode a 3-hit shutout by Sarah Abramson in a 3-0 win in Game 2.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow at 11 a.m. (PT) – with C of I needing a win and a Southern Oregon loss vs. Providence, to keep their Cascade Conference title hopes alive.
The Owls (33-12, 19-4) struck first in Game 1, plating a run on an Amanda Nunes RBI single – but the top scoring offense in the CCC was handcuffed by C of I ace
Colette Robert, who scattered eight hits and fanned four to pick up her 17th win of the year.
OIT starter Ali Graham took a perfect game into the fifth, before Maddox greeted her with a solo homer to center – her team-leading tenth long ball of the year. Two innings later, a one-out
Delaney Atkins walk was followed by blast from Eakle – providing the winning margin.
Game 2 belonged to Abramson, who held the Yotes to five singles and two walks, striking out 10 in the victory.
Jacey Conklin got the Owls on the board in the second, lining an RBI triple into the right field corner. Tech added a pair in the fifth – as Andrea Sotelo hit a 2-run homer, her league-leading 11th home run of the year.
C of I had a chance in the seventh – putting two runners on base with one out – but could not get the clutch hit.
Hannah McNerney took the loss for the Yotes, allowing eight hits and three walks, with
Trystin Crofts going 2-for-3 in Game 2.
