SALEM, Ore. - The College of Idaho women's tennis team continued to show improvement - but a pair of three-set losses in singles play and a doubles loss in a tiebreak were the different, as Willamette University topped the Yotes, 7-2, at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club.
The Bearcats (1-1) won two of the three doubles' matches by large margins, but the C of I team of
Sydney Ewing and
Marissa Shirley played even with Sylvia Marr and Alexis Gjurasic at No. 2 - before the WU duo claimed the decisive tiebreak, 7-5, to win, 8-7.
In singles play, the Yotes had the lead in five of the six matches - as
Natalie Little claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win over Marr at No. 3 and
Leiana Almaraz recorded a 6-4, 7-5 win over Siena Ginsburg at No. 4 - but C of I watched as the Bearcats stormed back from one-set deficits at No. 1 and No. 6 to clinch the match.
C of I continues their road swing tomorrow with a morning match at Pacific University.
