COLUMBUS, Ga. - Three school-record performances led to three All-America honors, as the College of Idaho remains in firm control of fifth-place heading into the final day of competition at the NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships inside the Columbus Aquatics Center.
The Yotes closed Day 3 with 177 total points - trailing SCAD-Savannah (452), Keiser (315), Cumberlands (269.5) and Olivet Nazarene (204.5) - but have a 40-point cushion on sixth-place Loyola (137).
Maddy Kelly continued her amazing meet, earning All-America honors in the 100-yard butterfly. The senior broke her own school record twice - clocking a time of 56.90 seconds in the preliminaries, before placing fourth in the championship final with a time of 56.67 seconds - nearly a full-second faster than the previous mark.
Caroline Yannelli added another All-America plaque to her mantle, claiming All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Yannelli, who earned All-America honors in the event last season, broke her own school record in the championship heat with a time of 1:05.11.
Both Kelly and Yannelli joined
Reina Watkins and
Maya Murphy on the 200-yard medley relay - which destroyed the C of I school record with a fourth-place finish in the evening championship finals. The time of 1:46.50 was two full seconds faster than any previous C of I squad in the event.
Three others competed in morning preliminary heats - Watkins placing 20th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.21),
Taylor Gordon placing 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.68), with Murphy placing 24th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.53).
