Coyotes Earn Series Win With 9-6 Victory Over Menlo

CALDWELL, Idaho – Bentli Corta went 3-for-3 with three RBI, including a 2-run double in a 6-run second inning outburst, as the College of Idaho earned a series win over Menlo College with a 9-6 victory at Symms Field.

The Coyotes (10-1) rallied from a 4-0 first inning deficit for the victory, with the scheduled second game cancelled so Menlo could make their evening flight home.

The Oaks (4-10) jumped out to the early lead – capitalizing on two C of I errors and Sarah Reyes blasted the first of two home runs on the day.

C of I returned the favor in the second – as a Marissa Maddox RBI single and an RBI double from Hannah McNerney cut the deficit in half. Corta followed, gapping a 2-run double of the wall in right-center, to tie the score. Kylie Smith gave the Yotes the lead with an RBI single, with Trystin Crofts making it 6-4 with a bloop RBI single down the right field line.

Corta added to the lead in the third with an RBI single and scored on a MC error – before the Oaks added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Menlo had a chance in the seventh – bringing the tying run to the plate, but Colette Robert was summoned from the pen, getting a fielders' choice and a strikeout to end the game.

Haylie Hudson worked out of a fourth inning jam to earn the win, with Nichole Giesy adding two-plus innings of shutout relief – striking out three.

C of I pounded out 13 hits – as Crofts, Maddox, McNerney and Aleah Mendiola each had two hits – with Reyes and Lauren Harrison recording two hits for the Oaks.

The Yotes return to action next weekend, opening Cascade Conference play with a 4-game series vs. the University of Providence. The series, originally scheduled for Great Falls, Mont., has been moved to Caldwell due to field conditions.
