SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Alexis Robbins ended a scoreless draw in the 108th minute to give Rocky Mountain a 1-0 win over The College of Idaho on Tuesday in a Cascade Conference Tournament quarterfinal.
A foul by the Yotes (7-6-4, 6-4-2 CCC) in the 107th minute set the Battlin' Bears (13-3-1, 9-2-1 CCC) up with a direct free kick opportunity. With a handful of players in the front of the net waiting for the rebound, Robbins took the carom and put the finishing touches on the Rocky victory as the 108th minute began, with Ellen Hunsaker earning the assist on the play.
It was a resilient effort throughout for C of I, which saw keeper
Kylee Atkins make eight saves on 18 shots, including an impressive performance to haul in a Hannah Borgel attempt in the 88th minute and then punching out another Borgel try in the 93rd minute off of a free kick.
C of I created a golden opportunity in the 89th minute when
Kaitlyn Ramon slipped a through ball behind the defense to
Madison Glascock, who had her shot saved by Maia Wetzel.
Rocky outshot the Yotes 18-5 for the match, including a 9-5 edge in shots on frame.
It was an impressive year in the net for the Atkins and
Shae Waters, who end the season having held 13 of 17 opponents to a goal or fewer, with just 14 total goals allowed for the campaign. C of I outscored opponents 26-14 on the season.
The Battlin' Bears now advance to take on Southern Oregon on Wednesday in a CCC semifinal, while Corban battles Eastern Oregon in the other semifinal pairing.
