CALDWELL, Idaho – The second-highest scoring output of the season lifted The College of Idaho to a 5-0 shutout win over Evergreen on Friday afternoon at Simplot Stadium.
Needing a win to boost their positioning in the Cascade Conference standings, the Yotes (4-5-4, 3-4-2 CCC) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a
Madison Glascock flick into the net off of a
Chloe Teets corner and never looked back.
The offensive onslaught continued in the 27th minute when
Alexa Rierson tallied an unassisted goal on the back-end of a double shot.
Not content with the two-goal lead heading into half, C of I utilized the first career score from
Cheyanne Rede off a combination assist from
Payton Mongelli and
Brooklyn Ruwe to stretch the lead to 3-0 at the break. Rede would add an unassisted strike after blowing by the Geoducks (5-8-0, 3-6-0 CCC) defense and finishing in the 86th minute.
Emma Powley had an insurance goal of her own on a penalty kick in the 68th minute to round out the scoring for the Yotes.
In the net, the combination of
Kylee Atkins and
Shae Waters benefited from a quality performance from the C of I defense to shut Evergreen out. The Yotes finished the contest with a 19-3 advantage in shots.
The five goals were the most for C of I since a 6-0 defeat of Northwest Christian on Sept. 21 and equaled the total number of goals for the team over the last six combined games.
A pivotal weekend of home matches continues tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. as the Yotes host Northwest, which sits at the top of the CCC standings.
