LA GRANDE, Ore. – Despite constant pressure from the College of Idaho attack, Eastern Oregon made a first half goal stand up, as the Mountaineers earned a key 1-0 victory over the Lady Yotes at Community Stadium.
Jenna Jensen slotted home a cross in the box from Natalie Mitchell just 15 minutes into the match, as the Mountaineers (7-1-1, 3-1-1 CCC) recorded the home victory.
The Lady Yotes (4-3-1, 1-3), who have been outscored a combined 4-0 in their three Cascade Conference losses – had chances for the equalizer, but could not find the net. C of I had a trio of corner kicks midway through the first half – with one of the chances headed off the crossbar by an EOU defender – while a blast off the boot of
Jocelyn Cook-Cox on a 32nd minute set piece, clanged off the iron and an
Emily Carrell shot off the carom missed just high.
The visitors nearly tied it in the second half, but a 30-yard free kick from
Kassandra Phillips in the 70th minute missed just high.
C of I keeper
Shae Waters kept the Yotes in the contest – making 12 saves.
Eastern had a 24-9 edge in total shots, however, C of I had seven of the 11 corner kicks in the contest. The two teams combined for 22 fouls and five cautions in the physical game.
The Lady Yotes have the weekend off, preparing for their home opener next Friday against the University of Providence.
