Box Score 2 LA GRANDE, Ore. – A four-hit, four RBI day from
Marissa Maddox wasn't enough for the College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes dropped both ends of a Cascade Conference doubleheader with Eastern Oregon at Peggy Anderson Field.
The Mountaineers (12-8, 8-2 CCC) extended their win streak to eight with 5-0 and 10-7 victories.
Hailey Kline handcuffed the Yotes (13-11, 4-7) in Game 1, limiting C of I to just four singles – retiring the final 13 batters in order. She was helped by three home runs – a two-run homer in the second by Shevan Defreitas, solo homer in the third by Maryssa Santi and a two-run homer in the sixth from Chelsea Spanier.
Game 2 saw the Yotes jump out to a 5-0 lead after two innings – as in the first,
Martha Tooley singled home a run and Maddox knocked in two with a single, while an inning later
Trystin Crofts lined a two-run single.
Maddox hit a solo homer in the third and added an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-2, but the Mountaineers took advantage of two C of I errors in a six-run fifth inning, with a Defreitas 3-run homer giving EOU the lead for good.
Crofts,
Mallory Copeland and
Kristin Paulazzo each had two hits in the loss for C of I – with just two of Eastern's 10 runs earned.
The teams close out the series with two Sunday games, starting at 11 a.m. (PDT)
