SALEM, Ore. – Playing short-handed for the third-straight match, the College of Idaho battled to the end against a talented Willamette University squad, as the Lady Yotes dropped a tight 5-4 decision at the Salem Tennis and Swim Center.
The Lady Yotes (0-4) grabbed two of the three doubles points – getting a dominant 8-2 win at No. 2 by
Alex Sorte and
Natalie Little over Sylvia Marr and Sarah Dean, along with a hard-fought 9-7 win at No. 3 by
Erin Huffman and
Marissa Shirley over the Bearcats Siena Ginsburg and Andrea Gjurasic.
WU (5-4) took three of the top four singles spots – including a third-set tiebreak win by Marr over C of I's
Melissa O'Berto (6-3, 1-6, 7-6), with Ginsburg adding a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Shirley.
C of I claimed singles wins at No. 2 by
Erin Huffman (6-3, 6-1 over Robin Pashek) and at No. 6 by
Taylor Little (7-5, 3-6, 1-0 over Hannah Andres).
The Yotes close out the trip with a morning match tomorrow at Pacific University.
