SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - An amazing season for the College of Idaho women's soccer team came to a close in the Cascade Conference Tournament semifinals, as Northwest University punched their ticket to the NAIA National Championships with a 4-0 victory over the Yotes at Les Schwab Soccer Park.
The Eagles (10-8-2) scored just seven minutes into the match and limited C of I to just three total shots in the match - picking up their second win over the Lady Yotes in the last two weeks.
Katie Michkiosky, the leading scorer in the CCC, drove home a low shot from 10-yards to give the No. 5 seed the 1-0 lead at the 7:09 mark of the first half. Jubilee Zevenbergen, who assisted on the opening goal, struck in the 34th minute, driving a shot from just outside the area into the bottom right corner of the twine. NU nearly made it 3-0 late in the half, but consecutive shots by Olivia Morris and Whitney Weaver banged off the crossbar.
NU put the game away with two second half scores - Katie Metz tapping home a Michkiosky cross early in the period, and Morris striking a 30-yard shot in the 78th minute.
The Lady Yotes (10-5-3), who advanced to the semifinals on the strength of a shootout victory - were limited to just three total shots by the NU defense and mustered just one corner kick. Keeper
Shae Waters had four saves in the loss for C of I.
The defeat ends the careers of 12 senior student-athletes on the Coyote squad.
