CALDWELL, Idaho –
Maddie Brown headed home the tying goal with less than eight minutes left in regulation, helping the College of Idaho to a 2-2 draw with league-leading Carroll College at Simplot Stadium.
In a wild, back-and-forth shootout, the Lady Yotes (5-3-2, 2-3-1 CCC) saw a one-goal halftime lead evaporate – but for the second-straight outing, battled back to earn a crucial point in the Cascade Conference table.
C of I had the run of the pitch in the first 45 minutes – getting quality chances from
Erika Thompson in the second minute and from
Emily Aspden in the 21st minute – before breaking through 12 minutes later. Reserves
Cameron Coyle and
Madison Glascock connected – Coyle playing a long thru-ball down the right side, with Glascock making a speedy run, beating Saints (6-5-2, 5-0-2) keeper Devan Murfitt for the 1-0 lead.
The Saints nearly tied it just before halftime, as a 20-yard shot from Regan Widner drilled the right post – but needed just four minutes in the second half to score the tying goal. Off a flip-throw from Taryn Neameyer deep in the right corner, Charly Clements one-timed a shot into the left corner of the net to put CC on the board.
CC took the lead in the 63rd minute as McKenna Payne played a cross to the top of the 18, finding Payton Netz, who blasted a left-footed attempt into the left corner of the netting.
The Yotes went on the attack – as Murfitt stuffed
Emily Aspden on a 15-yard strike off a counterattack and redirected an
Emma Powley drive just over the crossbar. In the 83rd minute, a
Megan Aumeier corner was touched by Glascock in the box to the waiting head of Brown – knocking home the tying goal into an open net.
The Saints nearly won the game in regulation – but a 25-yard shot by Clements drilled the crossbar before being cleared by the C of I defense.
In the extra periods, CC had a pair of shots on goal, but C of I keeper
Shae Waters made two of her eight saves to help her squad earn the draw.
C of I held a 20-16 edge in total shots, with CC recording a 10-9 edge in shots on frame.
The Yotes return to action on Friday, hosting Northwest Christian at 12:30 p.m.
