Northwest Stuns Lady Yotes in Final Seconds

CALDWELL, Idaho – Katie Michkiosky scored the game-winning goal with just 14 seconds remaining, lifting Northwest University to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the College of Idaho at Simplot Stadium.

The Eagles (8-7-2, 8-2-2 CCC) scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of play to stun the Yotes – who had a four-match win streak and a six-match home unbeaten streak snapped.

Despite NU having the run of the pitch for the majority of the game, the Lady Yotes (9-4-2, 6-4-1) took the lead in the 21st minute. An alert Emily Aspden secured a failed clearance by the Eagles backs, collecting the loose ball 30-yards from goal and driving a shot over the head of keeper Kat Sanchez for the 1-0 lead.

NU kept the pressure on – holding a 20-4 edge in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks – but could not find the net until the start of the 81st minute. A foul on the wet turf set up a 35-yard Bailey Travis free kick – a drive that skipped past C of I keeper Shae Waters just inside the left post to even the score.

C of I had a late push inside the final minute – but an Eagles counter-attack proved to be the winner. Off a throw in, Jubilee Zevenbergen made a run down the left side, slotting a thru-ball to the charging Michkiosky, who flicked a one-timer inside the right post for the winner.

Waters had six saves in the loss for the Lady Yotes – as C of I posted just two shots on frame in the contest.

The Yotes close out the regular-season on Sunday, hosting Evergreen at 3 p.m. – with the 12 senior student-athletes to be honored following the men's game (around 1:45 p.m.)
