Taylor Alexander had six of her match-high 15 kills in a big Set 2 rally, lifting eighth-ranked College of Idaho to a sweep of Warner Pacific in the Yotes home opener inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (10-1, 2-1 CCC) used a .306 hitting percentage to dispatch the visiting Knights 25-16, 25-22, 25-19.
C of I cruised through the opening set, as middle blockers
Alaina Slater and
Jackie van Vliet combined for seven kills on 10 swings – without an attack error.
Set 2 was a struggle, as WPC (1-2, 1-2) scored the first five points and extended the lead to 15-8 on back-to-back Lauren Tennyson kills. C of I roared back behind Alexander, who slammed a trio of spikes to cut the gap to 17-16, with the Yotes scoring the final five points – including a block and two kills from Alexander – to steal the set.
Mali Sawyer took over in Set 3, recording five kills – including a pair in an 8-2 run that broke a 17-17 tie and ended the match.
Sawyer had a career-high 10 kills and a pair of blocks, with Slater adding six kills and van Vliet five.
Marija Djonovic led the team with 38 assists and 11 digs, with the Yotes winning despite not recording an ace.
Tennyson led the Knights with 12 kills, with Janessa Mast adding 11 kills and 10 digs.
The Yotes return to action tomorrow night, hosting Multnomah at 7 p.m. Fans who purchase tickets to C of I's football game against Southern Oregon will receive free admission to the volleyball match with their ticket stub.
