SALEM, Ore. –
Destiny Turner went 3-for-3 in the opener and
Courtney Ellis went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, but Corban University outlasted the College of Idaho in both games of today's doubleheader at Warrior Field.
The No. 18 ranked Warriors (34-6, 18-3 CCC) extended their win streak to 14 games with 5-2 and 4-0 victories over the Lady Yotes to complete a four-game series sweep.
Turner got the Yotes (15-20, 11-10) on the board in the opening inning of Game 1, driving in Ellis from second base for the 1-0 lead. The senior would get hits in seven-straight at bats, dating back to yesterday's second game, before a pop-out ended the streak in Game 2.
Corban tied the game in the bottom of the first on a Maddy Melton RBI single and took the lead with a three-run third, capped by two-run Chaleigh Kirkwood single. C of I cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth on a
Trystin Crofts RBI single, but stranded the bases loaded – their final chance with a runner in scoring position.
Melton and Taylor Eilders each had two hits for Corban, with
Hailey Chambers going 2-for-3. Sabrina Boyd went the distance for the Warriors, working around seven hits for her 16th win.
Game 2 was scoreless through three innings – with the Yotes stranding runners in scoring position in the first and third innings. The hosts would break through in the fourth, scoring a run on an illegal pitch and another on a Kirkwood sacrifice fly. Corban would make it 4-0 an inning later on an Iris Rodriguez RBI single and a Sam Woodley sacrifice fly.
Allie Mendez tossed a six-hit shutout, striking out six in the win.
Bentli Corta had a pair of hits in the loss for the Yotes.
C of I returns home next weekend for a four-game series against Northwest Christian, with Saturday Senior Day for the seven senior student-athletes.
