CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho sent their five seniors out in style, rolling past Walla Walla University, 25-8, 25-15, 25-20, in the Lady Yotes final regular-season game inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The No. 14 ranked Yotes (23-5) got a 3-set school-record from
Miah Perez, who recorded eight aces, as C of I locked down the No. 2 seed to next weekend's Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, in Salem, Ore. The Purple and Gold will play in the first semifinal match on Friday against one of the winners from Tuesday's quarterfinal elimination games.
C of I used a 9-0 run early in Set 1 to take a 10-2 lead and set the hot hand of
Ashley Pagan, who blasted nine kills on nine swings in the period.
The Coyotes scored 15 of 16 points in Set 2 to lead 15-3 – as
Taylor Alexander had three kills and Perez had three aces in the run – as C of I rolled to the two set lead.
Set 3 was competitive, as the Wolves (1-23, 0-19) whittled a 9-2 C of I lead to 17-14 on a Megan Doyle kill. Perez took over, rattling off three straight aces to push the lead to 22-15, with an
Alaina Slater emphatic kill ending the match.
Alexander led all players with 10 kills, with senior
Kiara Skinner recording a career-high nine kills. Fellow senior
Brenna Meehan had seven kills and 11 digs, with Slater adding five kills in her final home match.
Marija Djonovic led all players with 33 assists and 14 digs, with senior
Kilee Lopez logging eight digs and an ace.
Lauren Barlow led WWU with seven kills – as the Wolves mustered just 15 kills as a team on the night. Sarah Halverson had four aces to pace WWU.
