Lady Yotes Lose Epic 5-Set Thriller in CCC Title Game

SALEM, Ore. – Trailing two sets to won, the College of Idaho forced a winner-take-all final frame, but could not make a 12-10 lead hold up, as Corban University claimed the title of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank with a 23-25, 25-9, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12 win inside C.E. Jeffers Center.

Both the No. 10 ranked Warriors (24-7) and the No. 14 ranked Yotes (24-6) claimed the CCC's automatic berths to the NAIA Championships – with the Opening Round and seeded teams to be announced on Monday – with each squad expected to be seeded directly to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa.

C of I used a 6-0 run – keyed by three Taylor Alexander kills – to break an 11-11 Set 4 tie and outlasted a late Warriors run to force the fifth set. The Yotes had control of the majority of the final frame, getting two Jackie van Vliet kills and an Alexander spike to take a 9-6 lead and led 12-10 after an Alaina Slater-Marija Djonovic combo block.  However, the Yotes could not get a needed side-out, as Amber Parker had two kills and Alaina Gentili added a block and a kill, as the hosts scored the final five points of the match.

Ashley Pagan had 15 kills and 12 digs in the loss for C of I – one of four players with double-digit kills. Slater had 11 kills and four blocks; van Vliet had 10 kills and seven blocks; with Alexander adding 10 kills and five blocks. Djonovic finished with 42 assists, 10 digs and four blocks, with Brenna Meehan leading all players with 20 digs.

Parker had 17 kills in the win for Corban, their first league crown since 1997. Gentili had 14 kills and six blocks, as the Warriors recorded 15.5 team blocks on the day.
