Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho - Southern Oregon University volleyball beat the College of Idaho tonight 3-2 at the J.A. Albertson Activity Center. This is only the third loss of the season for the Yotes, but the second at the hands of Southern Oregon.
The Yotes came out strong despite losing two starters -
Taylor Alexander and
Ashley Pagan - early in the first set to injuries. They won that set 25-20 with an attack percentage of .179. The Raiders won the second set 25-22, but the Yotes gave them a scare when they came back from 22-15 deficit to get within three. Both the Yotes and the Raiders had an attack percentage of .242 in the second set.
The Yotes came back to win the third set 25-16 with an attack percentage of .324. In the fourth set, the Yotes had a .208 attack percentage compared with Southern Oregon's .311, their best of the match. Two kills from
Miah Perez deep in the set brought the Yotes back from an 18-24 deficit, but it wasn't enough for the comeback and they fell 25-20.
Both teams played back in fourth for the first half of the fifth set. However, the Raiders pulled ahead with a three-point run to make the score 10-7. A block and kill from
Jackie van Vliet tied things back up at 11, but the Yotes never regained the lead and fell 15-13.
van Vliet was a standout for the Yotes tonight with 14 kills and seven blocks.
Alaina Slater,
Mali Sawyer and Miah Perez also had double-figure kills with 12, 15 and 11.
Marija Djonovic had a double-double with 53 assists and 12 digs as well as five kills.
Kilee Lopez also came close to a double-double with 31 digs and seven assists.
Josie Whitehead led the team in aces with three.
Overall, the team had the edge in attack percentage - .225 compared with .194 - and both teams ended the game with five aces. Southern Oregon held the edge in other stat categories, but the teams were fairly evenly matched with 81-75 in points, 67-62 in kills, 9-8 in blocks and 63-58 in assists.
The Yotes will be back in J.A.A.C tomorrow night at 5 p.m. to take on Oregon Tech.
