Box Score ATHERTON, Calif. - Quick starts to both halves staked the College of Idaho to a pair of leads, however two Menlo College goals in the final 15 minutes proved to be the difference, as the Oaks toppled the Lady Yotes, 4-3, at Wunderlich Field.
Menlo (1-0) erased a 3-2 C of I lead with a pair of goals in a five minute span - tying the match on a nifty Danielle Robinson goal in the 77th minute, while in the 82nd minute, Nina Lee flicked home a rebound into an empty net which proved to be the game-winner.
The Yotes (0-1) tallied two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match to stun the home side. Â
Jamiece Yizar made a run in the third minute, finding
Katelyn Benavidez for an easy tap-in goal for a 1-0 lead. Â Yizar did it herself in the tenth minute, making a long run and rifling a 20-yard shot into the upper netting of the goal for the two-goal advantage.
MC put the pressure on the remainder of the half, as a 19th minute Danielle McCarthy goal off a rebound and a 29th minute strike from Brittany Squarcia evened the score.
C of I answered again early in the second half, as
Maddie Brown scored after a long run down the middle of the field to give the visitors a lead that they were unable to hold.
Statistically, the match was even - as Menlo held a slight 15-14 edge in shots, with both teams attempting two corners.
South Africa National Team member Kaylin Swart made six saves in the win for the Oaks, while
Brittany Houghton had eight saves for C of I.
The Lady Yotes will have a training day on Sunday in preparation for a Monday match at William Jessup.
