CALDWELL, Idaho – A late College of Idaho goal forced overtime, however, the University of Great Falls struck for a golden goal just two minutes into the extra session to steal a 2-1 victory over the Lady Yotes at Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (4-4, 0-3 CCC) were on the offensive with seven shots in the first half, two on target. Shots from
Summer Jackson in the 7th minute and
Emma Powley's in 38th minute were saved by the Argo's Kyra Dorvall.
The one shot UGF (2-7, 2-4) took in the first half came in the 17th minute but was saved by
Brittany Houghton. The match remained gridlocked at 0-0 at halftime.
The Argos broke through in the 61st minute when Katie Bennett slotted home a rebound of a Grace Ibsem shot for the 1-0 lead.
The Coyotes responded 10 minutes later after
Allie Boyd's shot from 15 yards out ricocheted off the right post right to
Jamiece Yizar, who capitalized for the equalizer and her team-leading fifth goal.
The Yotes' attack did not lighten up, taking five more shots in the remaining minutes.
Katelyn Benavidez had an opportunity to capture a victory when her shot in 89th minute deflected off the Argo's Dorvall right back to her for a second chance. Benavidez's put back was stopped by the hands of the diving Dorvall for a game-saving save.
Just two minutes into overtime and a flashback to the Yotes' match on Friday against Carroll College, Eme McLaughlin scored the game-winning goal off of an assist from Alejandra Guzman.
C of I dominated the shots category (19-6) and shots on goal (8-4). The Argos tallied seven saves to the two for the Yotes.
The Yotes remain at home with a match against Corban on Friday at 1 p.m. before hosting Northwest Christian on Sunday at Noon.
