CALDWELL, Idaho –
Brenna Meehan had 20 kills and
Cheyan Coburn had a career-high 30 digs, helping the College of Idaho to their second-straight win over a Top-25 team, stopping No. 24 Northwest University in four sets inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Yotes (14-8, 9-5 CCC) began the first set in control after a kill from
Randi Sturtz gave them a 7-3 early lead. The Eagles (13-5, 10-3) rallied back to tie the set at 14-14 all before taking an 18-20 lead on a kill from Dakota Adams. Both teams remained gridlocked until the Lady Yotes fired off three straight points, ending the set on a service ace from
Cheyan Coburn.
The start of the second set featured early on a four point run for Northwest and two four point runs by The College of Idaho to give the Yotes a 12-8 advantage. Meehan recorded four kills down the stretch and finished the set off with a service ace to give the Yotes a 25-16 victory.
Northwest responded quickly in the third set, opening up with a 7-2 run. The Yotes answered back with their own 8-3 run, tying the set at 13-13 on a combo block by
Katy Robinson and Meehan. The Lady Yotes fought back all set, tying the score another five times but ultimately fell 25-22 after back-to-back kills for the Eagles.
C of I took an early 8-5 lead over Northwest in the final set with a 5-0 run highlighted by kills from
Jackie van Vliet and
Ashley Pagan. The Eagles matched the Yotes with a 5-0 to regain the lead at 9-11. Both teams traded points throughout the set to remain locked in a 22-22 tie. The Yotes captured the victory by ending the set on a 4-1 run capped off by kills from Meehan, Aliana Slater, Pagan and Sturtz.
Meehan led the match in kills with 20 while Pagan added 14 of her own.
Jayde Folsom led the Yotes with 29 assists with
Sydney Call contributing 19 assists as well. The Lady Yotes recorded five service aces and nine team blocks.
The College of Idaho resumes play Saturday, October 15th against Cascade Conference opponent Evergreen at 5 p.m. in the J.A. Albertson Activity Center.
