CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho split a pair of games on Day 3 of the C of I/NNU Classic at Symms Field, losing a late lead in a 5-3 decision to Montana State-Billings, before rolling to a 12-6 victory over Carroll College.
In Game 1, a long two-run homer in the sixth inning from Emily Osborn broke a 3-3 tie, as the Yellowjackets (5-7) hung on for the win.
The Yotes (8-11) made it interesting in the seventh, putting a runner at first with one out. Jodie Hoagland lined a ball off the center field wall for an apparent double, but was called out for making contact outside of the batters' box. Destiny Campbell followed with a double, but Destiny Turner flew out to the warning track in center to end the game.
C of I took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the opening inning on a long three-run homer from Alexis Macias. However, Jessyka McDonald settled down, working around five hits and four walks for the win.
Campbell was 2-for-4 for the Yotes, with Osborn going 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBI for MSU-B.
Game 2 saw C of I bolt to a 11-2 lead and hold off the Saints (2-9) for the win.
The Coyotes plated four in their first at bat, including a key two-run single from Kristin Paulazzo, getting a two-run Chelsea Szymanski single in a three run second.
Run scoring singles in the fifth by Rickey Kamimae and Madison Cushing, followed by a two-run Tess Willis base hit gave the Yotes an 11-2 lead, but Carroll did not quit. The Saints took advantage of three C of I errors in the fifth to plate three runs – leaving the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings – as the Yotes hung on.
Paulazzo, Szymanski, and Turner all had two hits for the Coyotes, with Alex Kordopatis allowing five hits in five innings for the win. Kaydee Parsons had two hits in the loss for Carroll.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with three games in both Caldwell and Nampa, with the Lady Yotes meeting Great Falls at Noon.
