Lady Yotes Close Regular Season with Win

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Kylie Porter made her final statement in the Cascade Conference Player of the Year race with 16 kills on 21 swings, helping the College of Idaho to a 3-set win at Walla Walla University.

The No. 25 ranked Lady Yotes (18-10, 16-4 CCC) finished in third-place in the regular-season CCC standings, earning a home quarterfinal date with Oregon Tech in the CCC Championships.  The two teams will meet in Caldwell on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Porter finished the conference season with a gaudy .413 hitting percentage, recording her best attack percentage of the season in tonight's match – registering just one hitting error, finishing the night at a .714 clip.

The Wolves (6-19, 3-17) hung tough throughout, getting a first set kill from Emily Allen to close within 19-18.  But back-up opposite hitter Alaina Slater stepped up, getting a stuff block and two kills in a 6-point run to end the period.

WWU closed within 14-13 in Set 2, but an Abbey Fenton kill, a Slater-Jackie van Vliet combo block and an Emilee Chapman ace gave the Yotes a 4-point lead and cruised the rest of the way for a two set lead.

The Wolves jumped to leads of 5-1 and 6-3, only to watch the Yotes get even at 8-all on a van Vliet spike.  WWU took their final lead at 13-12, but Porter took over, recording two kills and a stuff block, part of a 7-0 run that clinched the win.

Porter added three blocks to her big night, with Fenton adding eight kills and Slater, van Vliet, and Katy Robinson all had five.  Sierra Porter led all players with 33 assists and Kilee Lopez paced the defenders with 33 digs.

Lex Shandko led WWU with seven klls.
