Big Offensive Night Pushes Lady Yotes Past Corban

CALDWELL, Idaho – Randi Sturtz and Kylie Porter each had 10 kills and the College of Idaho recorded their most prolific hitting night of the season, topping Corban in three sets inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Lady Yotes (11-9, 9-3 CCC) avenged an earlier loss to the Warriors by hitting .407 as a team in the 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 victory.  C of I also held a commanding 8-0 edge in total blocks.

The two teams felt each other out early in Set 1, as three Amber Parker kills helped the Warriors (8-9, 6-5) take a 8-6, while two Jackie van Vliet spikes gave C of I the lead back at 10-9.  The squads traded side-outs until an Abbey Fenton kill, a Corban hitting error, and a Fenton-van Vliet block pushed the Yotes lead to 21-16, helping the hosts win the opening set.

Corban rode the swing of Victoria Schroeder in Set 2, as the outside hitter had three kills in a surge that gave the visitors an 8-5 lead.  C of I countered with their defense, getting aces from Brielle Sheppeard and Jayde Folsom, along with two combo-blocks in a 14-4 surge that broke the set wide open.

C of I never trailed in Set 3, getting a pair of Sturtz kills in a 6-1 run to open the period.  The Warriors cut the gap to 8-7 on a Schroeder spike, but Porter ripped two kills and both Sturtz and van Vliet added two of their own, as the Yotes surged to an 18-11 lead and completed the straight-set win.

Sturtz had three blocks and Porter added two on the night, while van Vliet had nine kills without an error and a team-high five blocks.  Sierra Porter recorded 40 assists and tied Kilee Lopez for the team-high in digs with nine.

Parker, the NAIA leader in kills per set, led all players with 14 kills, with Schroeder recording 11.  Madison McLain had 33 assists, with Haley Wells leading the Warriors with 12 digs.

C of I returns to action tomorrow, hosting Northwest Christian at 5 p.m.
