KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Kylie Porter had 13 kills and five blocks helping the College of Idaho to their seventh-straight win, stopping Oregon Tech 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 inside Danny Miles Court.
The win for the Lady Yotes (17-9, 15-3 CCC) propelled the squad into second-place in the Cascade Conference standings – one-half game ahead of Southern Oregon, who dropped a 4-set match to Eastern Oregon. The two teams meet tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. – with the winner earning the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CCC Championships.
C of I started strong in Set 1, as two
Randi Sturtz kills and an
Emilee Chapman ace helped the team to a 5-1 lead. The margin would build to 15-7 after an
Abbey Fenton kill, but the Owls (13-10, 8-9) would score 7-of-8 points, with a Mykala Rubey spike getting the hosts within 16-14. Enter Porter, who had a kill and a stuff block in a quick spurt to extend the lead to 20-15 and the visitors were never threatened again.
Three blocks early in Set 2 set the tone for the Yotes, with three Fenton spikes giving C of I a 16-11 lead. Tech got within 21-19 on a combo-block from Whitney Webster and Kristin DePaoli, but four consecutive points by C of I closed the period.
A 7-0 run in Set 3 broke a 3-3 tie, helping the Yotes complete the sweep. C of I hit a match-high .333 in the period, while forcing eight attack errors by OIT.
Sturtz and Fenton each had eight kills in the victory, with
Jackie van Vliet recording seven kills and five blocks.
Sierra Porter had 41 assists for the Yotes, with
Kilee Lopez recording 12 digs.
Bailey Nelson led OIT with six kills, with both Tori Porter and Waverly Green recording 11 assists and Brooke Molloy logging a match-high 17 digs.
