Box Score 2 BUTTE, Mont. – The College of Idaho split a pair of four-set matches on Day 2 of the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge, losing to Montana Tech in their morning match, before closing tourney play with a win over Westminster.
Montana Tech 3, College of Idaho 1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20) – Three big runs by the Orediggers helped Tech claim the four-set win.
MT took advantage of seven C of I errors, breaking a 14-14 tie with an 11-3 run to earn a Set 1 win. The Lady Yotes trailed 11-9 in Set 2, but three Jenessa Koelliker kills in a 8-3 run gave C of I a lead that they would not relinquish.
Tech, though grabbed the final two sets – getting a two aces and two Bailie Cortner kills in a 9-1 push that broke a 10-10 tie in Set 3, then erasing an 8-7 Coyote lead by using a 7-1 run, keyed by three Haley Druyvestein kills.
Kylie Porter led the Yotes with 15 kills, with Bailee Kendall adding 11. Cortner led MT with 18 kills.
College of Idaho 3, Westminster 1 (25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20) – Emily Ottinger had 16 kills and Kendall added 12 in the Coyote win.
Porter came up big in the opening set, recording three kills and a solo block in a 9-2 run to break an 8-8 tie and eased to the win. Ottinger recorded back-to-back kills in a seven-point run in Set 2 to give C of I a 16-9 lead, taking a two set lead.
The Yotes were in position to win the match in three sets, leading 17-16 lead, but the Griffins scored nine of the final 11 points to force a fourth set. C of I led just 20-19 late in the period, but three kills by Kendall and two by Porter closed out the match.
C of I opens up Cascade Conference play on Tuesday, hosting Eastern Oregon at 7 p.m.
