Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A pair of second half goals lifted the College of Idaho to their third-straight win, rallying for a 2-1 victory over Arizona Christian at Dumke Field.
The Lady Yotes (3-1) scored both goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half – with Brittany Houghton making five saves in the period to turn away the Firestorm.
After ACU (1-4) took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a Crista Ortiz strike, C of I went to their top-two playmakers for the answer.
In the 48th minute, Jessica Whitehead played a perfect ball to Jamiece Yizar, who slotted home the tying goal. Ten minutes later, Katelyn Benavidez scored her third goal of 2014, an unassisted tally, to give C of I the lead.
Houghton was on her game in the second half, as C of I mustered only one shot during the final 30 minutes. The freshman stopped a flurry in the 76th minute, then made a save on a Aubrey Wimmer drive inside the final five minutes to earn the win.
ACU held a 9-6 lead in total shots, while the Yotes had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
C of I closes out the weekend tomorrow against Westminster College.
