Box Score 2 CALDWELL, Idaho – Alexis Macias had five RBI on the afternoon, with Nickayla Skinner fanning 10 in Game 1 and adding a go-ahead three-run homer in Game 2, helping the College of Idaho sweep Northwest University at Wolfe Field.
The No. 24 ranked Lady Yotes (18-10, 10-6 CCC) scored in 5-of-6 innings in an 8-2 Game 1 win, then used an eight-run third inning outburst to win Game 2, 9-4.
Skinner struck out 10 batters for the 26th time in her career – not allowing a hit in the middle five innings.
The Eagles (1-17, 1-11) strung together three first inning hits, with Katelyn Riedinger scoring on after an outfield bobble on a Sarah Payne double, to give NU a 1-0 lead. C of I answered with one swing in the bottom of the inning, as Macias lined a long two-run home run to center field.
Paige Gabiola led off the second with a solo blast to make it 3-1, with McKensie Stanton scoring during an inning ending rundown in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1. The Yotes put the game away in the late innings, getting a RBI bloop double from Madison Cushing in the fifth, and a two-run Macias double in the sixth, making it 8-1.
Destiny Turner was 3-for-4, with Macias, Brace, and Stanton all logging two hits for the Yotes.
NU jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead – batting around in their first at bat. Erin Ogden rolled a two-out bases-loaded single to get the Eagles on the board, with Janey Ganta following with a two-run single to left. After C of I cut the lead to 3-1 in the second, Chrissy Bacon hit an opposite field solo homer to give the Eagles a 4-1 edge.
The Lady Yotes countered in a big way in the third, sending 11 batters to the plate. Macias got C of I within 4-2 with an RBI double, followed by a Turner RBI single. Skinner gave the Yotes their first lead with a long three-run shot to center. Paige Gabiola made it 7-4 with an RBI double – scoring on one of seven NU errors – with Kaci Baldwin capping the scoring, plating a run with a squeeze bunt.
Cortni Pena allowed just three hits over the final five innings to pick up her seventh win of the season, with Stanton going 3-for-4 and Skinner and Ashley Van Horne each picking up two hits.
Bacon went 3-for-4 and Ogden added two hits in the loss for NU.
C of I returns to action tomorrow morning, hosting Concordia at 11 a.m.
