Box Score 2 SALEM, Ore. – Nickayla Skinner tossed her third career no-hitter in a Game 1 victory at Corban University, but a walk-off homer in extra innings helped the Warriors earn a doubleheader split at Warrior Field.
Skinner struck out 10 batters in the 9-0 win in the opener, while Kyrianna Sorensen lined a leadoff game-winning homer in the eighth inning of a 3-2 Game 2 win.
Game 1 was all Skinner, who walked one batter and hit a pair, picking up her 17th win. The Warriors (24-18, 11-13 CCC) hit only one ball hard – an Annie Owen deep drive to left in the third – while the righty made a diving catch of a Breonna Bejaran pop up in the fourth.
Paige Gabiola led off the game with a solo homer, with Destiny Turner adding a two-out solo shot, as the Yotes (25-13, 17-9) had a 2-0 after a half inning. Gabiola made it 4-0 in the second with a two-run double – then capped the scoring with a two-run single in the fifth – going 3-for-4 with five RBI in the victory.
Game 2 started similarly for Skinner – as the senior struck out the first five Corban batters she faced. However, the Warriors sixth batter finally got to the All-American, as Lounette Jackson clubbed her seventh homer of the season to left field.
C of I came right back in the third, as Gabiola was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a Corban error. The Warriors retook the lead in the fourth on a single by Raeann Dorcas, but the Yotes tied the game in the fifth when Hailey Chambers was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Corban tried to take the lead on a squeeze bunt in the sixth, but Skinner shuffled the bunt home with her glove to Chambers, who tagged Danielle Ackerman at the plate for the out. In the eighth, the Coyotes had runners at first and second with one out, but third-baseman Ashley Wardrop made a backhanded stab of a Gabiola liner and doubled the C of I runner off first to end the inning – setting up Sorensen's dramatics.
Skinner struck out 12 in the complete game loss, while Sam Gutwig fanned 10 in the win for the Warriors.
The Yotes close out the regular-season on Tuesday, hosting Eastern Oregon at 3 p.m.
