Lady Yotes Earn Key Road Sweep at Eastern Oregon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LA GRANDE, Ore. – McKensie Stanton went 5-for-7 with four RBI, including the go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning of Game 2, as the College of Idaho swept a doubleheader from Eastern Oregon at Peggy Anderson Field.

The No. 22 ranked Lady Yotes (14-8, 6-4 CCC) routed EOU 14-1 in Game 1, but battled back in their final at bats to steal a 6-5 win in Game 2.

The opener was never in doubt, as C of I scored five runs in the opening inning and never looked back. Destiny Turner delivered a two-run double, Stanton added a two-run single, and Cortni Pena made it 5-0 with an RBI single. In the second, Turner gapped her second two-run double of the game to make it 7-0.

After EOU (6-10, 1-9) got a run back in the second on a Stephanie Maestretti RBI single, the Yotes broke the game wide open, scoring four runs in the fourth – including a two-run homer from Katie Rowe – and three more in the fifth.

Nickayla Skinner eased through five innings to log her eighth win of 2014, as 12 different C of I batters recorded hits, part of an 18-hit attack. Stanton was 3-for-3, with Alexis Macias, Rowe, Turner, and Skinner each notching two hits.

The Lady Yotes led 2-1 in the fourth inning of Game 2, but EOU took advantage of a pair of C of I errors to take the lead on a double steal and extending the margin to 4-2 on a Maribeth Wantanabe RBI single.

Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, C of I put runners at the corners with no outs. Rowe got the Coyotes within a run with an RBI single, and an out later Stanton found the right-center gap to plate two to give the visitors the lead.

Pena got the win, working around eight hits and four errors. Van Horne was 3-for-4, with Macias, Rowe, and Stanton each recording two hits. Three EOU hitters – Wantanabe, Britnee Carmen-Rice, and Cassie Wendt, each had two hits.

C of I returns home for their next 12 games, opening with a doubleheader Friday vs. Corban at 2 p.m.
