Lady Yotes Drop Opener, Rain Washes Away Tourney

Box Score

REDDING, Calif. - Sarah Stromwell hit an opposite field solo homer in the fifth inning to provide the lone run of the day, as Biola topped The College of Idaho, 1-0, in Game 1 of the Big League Dreams Invite.

Both the Lady Yotes (0-1) and Eagles (5-0) saw the rest of their Friday and Saturday games washed out due to rain.

Stromwell led off the fifth, hammering the Nickayla Skinner offering over the right-center field wall, giving BU the lead.

C of I had their chances against starter Cece Luster and reliever Reba DePriest - as the Yotes put runners at first and third in the third inning, but did not score. The Coyotes followed suit in the top of the seventh, getting runners to second and third with one out, but could not push across the tying run.

Skinner was the tough luck loser, striking out nine in the complete game effort.

Luster and DePriest limited the Yotes to just four hits.

The C of I will return to action next weekend at the Northwest Cup in Clackamas, Ore.
