Lady Yotes Continue Dominance of Canyon County Rival

CALDWELL, Idaho - Nickayla Skinner tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener, with McKensie Stanton adding four hits on the day, including a big two-run single in Game 2, as The College of Idaho swept a doubleheader from rival Northwest Nazarene at Symms Field.

The Lady Yotes (7-4) won the opener in five innings, 9-0, then hung on for a 6-4 win in Game 2 - improving to 36-10 all-time against their Canyon County rival.

Skinner improved to 3-0 all-time against the Crusaders (5-10), limiting NNU to a pair of singles and striking out nine in the mercy-rule enduced game.

C of I took a 2-0 lead in the first, getting runs on a Destiny Turner fielders' choice and a NNU error, then added three more runs in the second. Madison Cushing had an RBI single, Briana Brace lifted a sacrifice fly, and Ashley Van Horne clubbed an RBI double. The Lady Yotes widened the gap to 9-0 in the third - including RBI singles by Cushing and Van Horne.

Stanton had three hits, with Cushing, Van Horne, and Katie Rowe each having two for the Yotes.

Brace got the Yotes off on the right foot in Game 2, leading off the opening inning with her third home run of the season. The Crusaders battled back to take the lead - evening the score in the second on an Ali Schauer RBI single, then making it 2-1 on a Gatalina Schuster RBI double in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, a Rowe double got C of I within a run - with a two-base throwing error on a grounder to third plated two more runs, giving the Yotes the lead for good. An inning later, Stanton added two key insurance runs with a two-run single, as Cortni Pena made the lead hold up, striking out five for her third win.

Brace and Alexis Macias each had two hits in Game 2.

The two teams will close out the home-and home series tomorrow with a Noon doubleheader in Nampa.
