KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Katelyn Benavidez recorded her first multi-goal game of her collegiate career, knocking home the game-winner off a rebound in the 70th minute, as the College of Idaho remained unbeaten in Cascade Conference play, defeating Oregon Tech, 2-1, at Trevor Darrah Field.
After OIT (5-7-1, 0-4-1 CCC) struck in the 12th minute when Cody White drove a 35-yard shot into the net, Benavidez got C of I even just seven minutes later. The freshmen took a pass from Sydney Woods behind the Owls defense and beat keeper Rebekah Matteri to even the score.
The Lady Yotes (6-3-2, 3-0-1) dominated the second half, holding a 13-3 edge in shots, but did not get the go-ahead tally until the 70th minute. Jamiece Yizar got in behind the OIT defense, with her drive clanging off the post – but the rebound found the foot of Benavidez, who slotted home the goal for a 2-1 lead.
C of I held a commanding 23-6 edge in total shots and a 7-0 lead in corners, as the Yotes ended a four-match losing streak to OIT.
The Yotes have tomorrow off in preparation for a Saturday night tussle at Southern Oregon.
