PORTLAND, Ore. – A big hitting night by the top-three Concordia University attackers helped the Cavaliers earn a key 25-17, 25-23, 25-19 victory over the College of Idaho inside Cavalier Gymnasium.
The trio of Lindsey Dorsey, Brianna Hogan, and Brenna Huwe combined for 36 kills and just five errors on the night, as the Cavs (14-7, 11-3 CCC) pulled a game ahead of C of I for third-place in the league standings. As a team, CU recorded a .371 team hitting percentage – recording 46 kills with just seven attack errors in the match.
In Set 1, two Hogan kills helped CU open a 5-1 lead, a margin that would surge to 18-9 on a Huwe spike, as the hosts eased to the opening win.
The Lady Yotes (12-9, 9-4) got a pair of Bailee Kendall kills in an 8-2 run midway Set 2 to grab a 15-9 lead. C of I led 23-20 after an Emily Ottinger kill, but CU got two Jibby kills from the back row and a pair of combo-blocks in a five-point surge to steal the set.
Set 3 featured 13 ties, the final one at 14-14, before the Cavs took advantage of three C of I hitting errors in a 4-0 run that would give them the lead for good.
Dorsey led CU with 14 kills, with Hogan recording 12 kills and four blocks, and Huwe notching 10 kills. Janessa Taylor had 42 assists in the win and Shantel Gritsch leading the team with 17 digs.
Kendall had a big night in the loss for C of I, recording 13 kills, while Emily Ottinger adding 10 kills. Sierra Porter had eight kills, 32 assists, and nine digs in the loss for the Lady Yotes.
C of I closes out the road trip tomorrow with a 3 p.m. match at Warner Pacific.
